6 months
It is a little over six months since I began dialysis. November 3rd was my start date, prior to that I was I am told close to death. Enlarrged heart and with fluid around my heart. When I bent over to tie my shoes, I could not catch my breath and took several minutes to get it back. there have been a lot of changes since then. Mostly dietary. Certain foods, healthy foods for most people, are off my plate permanently: potatoes, oranges, tomatoes, bananas. Those are the top of the no go list. Potassium and phosphorus are not removed from the blood through dialysis. It is best to reduce intake. One can take exttra calcium to bond with the phosphorus and it is then removed from your body. I saw more blizzards from behind the wheel of my car this past winter than I have faced in a few years. I seem to have lost some of my enjoyment in reading. Photography has lost some of its attraction and charm, as well. I have written little of value over these six months. With Spring threatening to warm up at last, maybe I can turn up the energy. I have volunteered to teach/coach some basic, very basic computer courses offered at three branches of my local library. I hope that is going to turn out to be fun. In the hospital in Orillia on the wall of the dialysis clinic, there is a framed saying, “Every day is a gift.” I try to keep that in mind.
Your site is very good. Please feel free to add our site to your links in efforts to get more information out to the renal community.
